9 Reasons you should take a break from dating

Take a Break
There are a lot of reasons why you should take a break from dating. These can range from being in a toxic relationship you need to heal from, going through a bad break up or trying to figure out what type of partner you want. If you’re feeling unsatisfied or unhappy and you think it’s to do with dating then maybe you should consider taking a break.

1) You just got out of a toxic relationship and take a break

A toxic relationship can have long lasting effects emotionally and mentally and these need to be dealt with before you start a new relationship. If you don’t then you’ll bring baggage into it and there’s a lower chance of things working out between you and your new partner because you’ll be struggling to deal with your feelings for them and your ex. Taking a break can give you time to deal with the past and work through your emotions which will lead you to feeling more happy and clear headed which is how you want to be when you start dating again.

2) The break up was bad

If you don’t take a break then it could have the same damaging effect as not dealing with a toxic relationship. You should also take some time to figure out what went wrong and what your role was in it so you know what mistakes to avoid in your next relationship. This will make you feel more confident about dating because you’re not feeling overwhelmed by the past and you’ll be more determined to make the next relationship better than the last.

3) Not knowing the type of partner you want

Dating can be draining on you if you don’t know the type of partner you want and are just going out with anyone who seems interested. There’s no real connection between the two of you so these relationships can be difficult and don’t last long. By taking time to think about the qualities you want in a partner, their ideal personality and what you’d like to have in common with them, you’ll be able to find a partner who is more suited to you. This will make dating easier because now you’ll be focused on finding someone who is right for you instead of rushing into another meaningless relationship.

4) Being undecided about what you want

Being Undecided
What you want can change as you get older and the type of relationships you had in the past might not be right for you anymore. It’s good to occasionally take breaks from dating to see if your priorities have changed. When you’re younger you tend to want casual relationships or hookups but as you get older you want the stability of a serious relationship and possibly marriage. Entering a new stage in life is normal and it’s something that takes time because it’s a gradual change which can take you surprise because you don’t notice it happening. If you’re starting to feel unsatisfied with dating then this might be your problem and you need to figure out what it is you want.

5) You’re losing sight of who you are

It’s easy to lose sight of who you are when you’re dating because you’re trying to make yourself more appealing to someone and are changing or hiding things about yourself, like bad habits or things you’re unsure of how they’ll react to. Over time the person you really are and the way you act with your partner can be two very different things and you’ll find it hard to go back and forth between these two. This isn’t good for you so you need to stop and spend time on reconnecting with who you are when you’re not dating. You then need to make an effort to stay true to yourself and only date people who can accept you unconditionally.

6) Your priorities have slipped

It’s easy to get caught up in dating and this can cause your priorities to shift in a bad way. You could neglect friendships, hobbies and work projects because you’re spending too much time with your partner or trying to find someone to date. Once the relationship ends you’re going to be lost and will struggle to get back to the way you used to be. You should use the time after a break up to enjoy yourself and reconnect with things that are important to you. There will always be time to date so don’t rush into it and see how fun being single can be.

7) You’re feeling burnt out

If you’re the type of person who needs to always be in a relationship or invests heavily in one relationship then eventually you’re going to get burnt out. The excitement from meeting someone new will fade and it will become a chore. You’ll make less of an effort and will stop caring if the relationship works out or not. This will affect your mood and affect other areas of your life. Everything will feel boring and tedious and this won’t change until you do something different like taking a break from dating. After awhile you’ll feel recharged and you’ll start looking forward to dating again because it’ll feel fresh and exciting.

8) You’re jumping from relationship to relationship

Jumping from relationship to relationship isn’t a healthy thing to do because there’s a reason why you’re having trouble committing to someone. The reasons for this could be trust or commitment issues, using dating as a way of avoiding dealing with issues or dating the kind of people who are wrong for you. You need to be single for awhile and take some time to really think about why you having this problem and then deal with it. This is the only way to help yourself because eventually non-stop dating will take it’s toll on you.

9) You miss being single

If you miss being single then you need to take a break from dating. You might not want to do this because you’re worried that you’re getting older and it’s harder to meet someone, or don’t want to be the only single person among your friends or think you’ll miss the fun of dating but a short break can be beneficial to you. Being single can take pressure off you because you’re not trying to make a relationship work, you can spend time only focusing on making yourself happy and you can do all the things you can’t do when you’re in a relationship.
